What is gentrification?
a) A sign of physical aging

Gentrification is a key word for urban studies, but what does gentrification actually look like? Can you see it, smell it, or even taste it? On this tour, which starts in Prenzlauer Berg—a neighborhood that has already been gentrified—we will investigate the first signs of the process of change in the adjacent area of Wedding. The tour provides a look at this so-far unexamined suburb in the shadow of trendy nearby neighborhoods Alt-Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. The tour will also present an opportunity for thought and debate about the discourse of current and future everyday phenomena in cities.
The founder of his own rental housing project in Wedding, and a specialist in the fields of architecture, urban development, culture, economics, and social innovation, Jürgen Breiter, the guide for this tour, will share his insights on these topics as well as his own experiences living in the neighborhood.

Ein Schlagwort der Stadtsoziologie in aller Munde - doch wie schaut Gentrifizierung eigentlich aus? Kann man sie sehen, riechen oder gar schmecken? Auf unserer Tour werden wir, ausgehend vom Prenzlauer Berg, einem sanierten und aufgewerteten Stadtteil, gemeinsam die Anzeichen der ersten Veränderungsprozesse im benachbarten Stadtteil Wedding aufspüren und dem Phänomen Gentrifizierung vor Ort nachgehen. Die Tour eröffnet Einblicke in einen bislang noch kaum beachteten Stadtteil im Schatten der angesagten Nachbarquartiere Alt-Mitte und Prenzlauer Berg. Die Tour eröffnet aber auch einen Denk- und Diskussionsraum zum gemeinsamen stadtsoziologischen Diskurs von Alltagsphänomenen bis Zukunftsszenarios.
Hierzu bringt ihr Tour-Begleiter (Dipl. Ing. Jürgen Breiter) als Urban Curator neben Fachwissen aus den Bereichen Architektur, Stadtentwicklung, Kulturwirtschaft und gesellschaftliche Innovation sowie als Initiator eines Mieterhausprojektes auch seine eigenen Wohn- und Lebenserfahrungen im Wedding mit ein.
