Come spend an afternoon at Gropiusstadt, the residential complex built in 1960 by modernist architect Walter Gropius.
Led by Jörg Stollmann, this unconventional tour of the urban complex will show you the space anew. Stollmann and his team are working with and for the residents of Gropiusstadt in a setting of community-based research and design, making this unlike most typical city tours. Architecture students will lecture about the challenges and potential of Gropiusstadt, share discoveries, and provide insights into the residential colony. With this approach, the tour can help mediate between everyday life and city planning.
Following a short introduction at the Lab about the projects “Campus Efeuweg: Model(s) of a new Gropiusstadt” and “AnG: Academy of a New Gropisstadt,” the tour group will go by bus to southern Neukölln.
Jörg Stollmann lives and works in Zurich and Berlin. He is co-founder of urbaninform.net with Rainer Hehl and is currently a professor and Chair for Urban Design and Architecture at the Technical University of Berlin. His work focuses on community-based design and research strategies and socially and environmentally just urban development. From 2002 to 2008, he was principal at Instant Architects with Dirk Hebel. He taught at the ETH Zurich in the MAS Landscape Architecture and directed the MAS Urban Design. Jörg Stollmann graduated from the University of the Arts, Berlin and Princeton University. He has received awards and fellowships from DAAD, the Graham Foundation, the German Academy in Rome, Red Dot Award, and the Van Alen Institute, New York.

Wir verbringen einen Nachmittag in der Grosssiedlung Gropiusstadt. Keine Führung im klassischen Sinn, sondern eine Begegnung mit dem Ort. Seit zwei Jahren arbeiten wir im Rahmen der gemeinschaftsbasierten Forschung und Gestaltung mit und für die Bewohner.
Architekturstudenten werden über Krisen und Potentiale der Gropiusstadt sprechen, Entdeckungen teilen und einen Einblick in die Grosssiedlung geben, der den Zusammenhang zwischen Alltag und Stadtplanung untersucht.
Ablauf: Nach einer kurzen Einführung in die Projekte "Campus Efeuweg - Modell(e) einer neuen Gropiusstadt" und "AnG - Akademie einer neuen Gropiusstadt" im Lab fahren wir zusammen ins südliche Neukölln. Auf der Fahrt wird in die Geschichte der Gropiusstadt eingeführt. Vor Ort übernehmen die Studenten die Tour.
Jörg Stollmann lebt und arbeitet in Zürich und Berlin. Er ist mit Rainer Hehl Gründer von urbaninform.net und Professor für Städtebau und Architektur an der TU Berlin. Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind gemeinschaftsbasierte Forschung und Entwurf und sozial und klimagerechte Stadtentwicklung. 2002-2008 führte er das Büro INSTANT Architekten mit Dirk Hebel. Er unterrichtete an der ETH Zürich im MAS Landscape Architecture und war Studiendirektor des MAS Urban Design. Jörg Stollmann studierte an der Universität der Künste Berlin und an der Princeton University. Stipendien des DAAD, der Graham Foundation, der Deutschen Akademie in Rom, Red Dot Award und Van Alen New York.
