Tubs of pigments

From 2011 to 2013, the BMW Guggenheim Lab traveled to New York, Berlin, and Mumbai. In each location, the Lab offered an array of free programs—panel discussions, film screenings, workshops, tours, and more—all developed in collaboration with the Lab Teams.

Programs developed by the New York Lab Team centered around the theme “Confronting Comfort,” and included tours, workshops, debates, roundtable discussions, screenings, performances, experiments, and “Comfort Series” lectures by such urban luminaries as Saskia Sassen, Elizabeth Diller, and Juliet Schor. The Berlin Lab Team presented programs that focused on the importance of “making” to activate urban change, with 97 talks, 101 workshops, 14 screenings, 5 special events, and 27 citywide explorations offering practical ways to empower residents with tools and ideas for shaping their urban environments. And the Mumbai Lab Team offered 165 free programs, including design projects, surveys, tours, talks, workshops, and film screenings, all focused around the exploration of privacy and public space in the city.
