Architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel’s dream was to create “a house for everybody,” so he developed a DIY wooden house that you can make completely by yourself. The structure can be assembled using everyday materials from the hardware store: with just a cordless screwdriver and a saw, you can build your own house. Le-Mentzel, who is already known for the invention of a DIY furniture collection called Hartz IV-Möbel, now presents the smallest house in the world: the One-Sqm-House.
Why is it special? Although the floor area measures only one square meter (thus the name), through a flipping mechanism it can provide a place to sleep. It is ideal for Occupy activists, as well as for imperiled homeowners who want to ensure the security of their site. Entrepreneurs can use the One-Sqm-House as a mobile kiosk, or it could be used as a confessional box or a space for meditation. Because of its compactness, the One-Sqm-House is not only suitable for the outdoors. It can also be used in an open-space office, as a phone booth, or as an extended guest room in your apartment. It’s a spatial miracle!

„Ein Haus für alle.“ sagt der Berliner Architekt Van Bo Le-Mentzel und entwickelte ein Holzhaus zum Selberbauen. Das Haus besteht aus handelsüblichen Materialien vom Baumarkt und kann von jedem Laien mit Akkubohrer und Säge geschreinert werden. Le-Mentzel, der bereits mit der Erfindung der Do It Yourself-Kollektion namens Hartz IV-Möbel für Furore sorgte, präsentiert nun mit dem One-Sqm-House das kleinste Haus der Welt. Die Besonderheit: Obwohl das Haus nur einen Quadratmeter an Grundfläche misst, kann es durch einen Kippmechanismus zum Schlafen genutzt werden. Ideal sowohl für Occupy-Aktivisten, als auch für den Wachschutz gefährdeter Bauherrengruppen. Unternehmer können das One-Sqm-House als fahrbaren Kiosk benutzen, Gläubige als Beichtstuhl oder Meditationsraum. Aufgrund seiner Kompaktheit eignet sich das One-SQM-House nicht nur im Außenbereich. Im Großraumbüro macht das Raumwunder eine gute Figur als Telefonzelle oder in der Wohnung als erweitertes Gästezimmer.
